The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority(LVCVA) is tasked with promoting our fabulous city as the world’s premier destination for both leisure and business travel. In 2015, Las Vegas welcomed a record-breaking 42.3 million visitors and we are on pace to beat that record in 2016. One of the many benefits of living in Las Vegas is the opportunity to experience world-class entertainment and activities 365 days a year in our own backyard!
Year-round sunshine is one of the many reasons Las Vegas is a top travel destination but in the summer, that sun can certainly heat things up! The LVCVA would like to highlight some of our city’s popular attractions locals and tourists can enjoy while beating the summer heat!
Take a Look at Las Vegas History
On June 11th the Las Vegas News Bureau will unveil its newest exhibit at the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas highlighting an exciting aspect of Las Vegas History. ‘Les Folies Bergère: Entertaining Las Vegas, One Rhinestone at a Time’ explores the beauty, artistry and extravagance of Vegas’ longest running Parisian cabaret show. Included in the exhibit are rarely seen photographs and spectacular stage costumes from the archives at the Las Vegas News Bureau and the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas. The unique exhibition interprets the legacy of the stage show via the personal narratives of those individuals who brought life to Las Vegas’ Folies Bergère. The exhibition will be on display through January 15, 2017. For more information about Las Vegas News Bureau exhibitions throughout the valley, visit http://www.lvcva.com/what-we-do/news-bureau/.
Find Your Park
The year 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. To celebrate, the agency has started a movement encouraging people to find their park. Las Vegas is a gateway to many national parks in the west. A new website, findyourpark.vegas, helps locate nearby parks within 5 hours of Las Vegas. The site even pairs parks with unique experiences like kayaking in the desert at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Explore Local Museums
Summer offers a great opportunity to experience Las Vegas museums. Many facilities offer discounts for Nevada residents, seniors and military. The Neon Museum invites visitors to experience their collection of neon signs with tours throughout the day with options for evening tours. The Mob Museum also boasts a series of special events and guided tours. If you can’t make it to the Mob Museum in person, the facility just launched a moe-bot virtual tour option for home or hospital-bound guests.
Have a great Las Vegas experience you’d like to share? The LVCVA is always looking for community members to help spread the importance of tourism throughout our community by becoming a Las Vegas Host Committee ambassador.
There are a number of ways to get involved, including taking a trip to the airport to welcome large visitor groups in person, posting important tourism-related announcements on social media or sharing recent tourism news with family and friends.
Anyone from the community can become a Las Vegas Host Committee Ambassador by registering on our website www.lvcva.com/host or they can email our office at firstname.lastname@example.org. It costs nothing other than your commitment to better our community.
Remember, being a great place to visit makes Las Vegas a great place to live. Enjoy our great city this summer! +
