When people travel to Las Vegas, they are greeted by the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign and that’s an image that truly suits what our destination stands for- hospitality. Las Vegas is a city built to host people. In 2016, Las Vegas welcomed a record-breaking 42.9 million visitors and that number is expected to grow in the future. The travel and tourism industry supports an estimated 407,000 jobs in Southern Nevada and generates $16.9 billion in local wages and salaries.
On May 7-13, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is rallying the community as Las Vegas joins the U.S. Travel Association – and the rest of the country – in recognizing National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW).
Each year during the first or second week in May, the tourism industry nationwide celebrates NTTW, a program developed by the U.S. Travel Association. This nationwide week of events serves to champion the power of our industry, and is America’s annual salute to travel and tourism.
To celebrate the strength of Las Vegas’ tourism industry and the people who work in it, the LVCVA and the Las Vegas Host Committee will take part in a series of events and activations with plenty of opportunities to get involved.
“Go Red” for Tourism (Tuesday, May 9, 2017) Let’s paint the town red! Per the U.S. Travel Association, the color red represents unity in our industry among travel and tourism workers and supporters coast-to-coast. Don’t forget to wear red during Travel Rally Day on Tuesday, May 9. Additionally, businesses and landmarks throughout the community are encouraged to turn signs, lights and decorations red to mark the occasion.
Join us on Travel Rally Day! (Tuesday, May 9, 2017) The LVCVA will be hosting our annual Travel Rally Day by celebrating the visitors who make Las Vegas the world’s best destination for leisure and business. The visitor appreciation event will take place at the Fashion Show Great Hall from 2-3pm featuring performances by the Australian Bee Gees, BAZ – Star Crossed Love, Vox Vegas and other entertainment led by Host Committee Chairman Oscar Goodman, along with his beautiful dancing showgirls. We plan to surprise visitors and our local community at the event with not only free entertainment, but free show tickets, attraction admissions, restaurant food and beverage offers and retailer promotional items.
Blood Drive for Tourism Challenge Kick-Off (Friday, May 12th) To further emphasize tourism is the lifeblood of Southern Nevada’s economy, the Las Vegas Host Committee will partner with United Blood Services to kick off the 2nd annual “Blood Drive Challenge for Tourism” during NTTW17. This initiative invites Host Committee Ambassadors and industry partners to show the strength of Las Vegas’ tourism industry, and how the many dedicated people who work to make our city a great place to visit also make it a great place to live. During the blood drive challenge, which will run through August, donors will be asked to choose from a list of Las Vegas businesses and organizations to pledge their blood donation in support of the group’s blood drive challenge efforts. The winning groups will earn bragging rights and a number of special prizes.
We hope you’ll join the Host Committee in celebrating our number-one-economic driver not only during NTTW, but also, throughout the year. You can stay up-to-date on the latest events and announcements by becoming a Host Committee ambassador. It costs nothing to become an ambassador other than your commitment to better our community. Once you sign up, we will provide details of special events and other important tourism-related initiatives. Anyone from the community can become an ambassador by registering on our website www.lvcva.com/host or emailing our office at firstname.lastname@example.org. +
