The World Famous Coffee Cup Café
Denny’s, IHOP, and a host of other contemporary atmosphere food establishments are an easy place to stop in for breakfast or lunch to eat but, I am a fan of eating at out of the way places. I often like to dig a little deeper and explore; generally seeking out something other than cookie cutter type restaurants.
The Coffee Cup Café in Boulder City is just such a place!
A short 20-25 minute drive from the Eiffel Tower and the Manhattan-like skyline of the Las Vegas Strip, I headed into the downtown historic district in Boulder City. The pink-ish stucco-type buildings, most of which were built during the Depression when the town was established as a federal district to house workers building the dam, gave me the warm impression of Main Street USA. I have heard Boulder City called “Non-Vegas-y” and I agree.
Heading south on Nevada Hwy I saw a sign with a big arrow pointing to The Coffee Cup Café – Great American Food. My stomach reminded me that I hadn’t eaten yet and this seemed like an ideal place to get a wholesome home-style breakfast.
As I put my name in I was told it was 15 to 20 minute wait. As I waited I never heard anyone complaining about the wait; it was just the opposite people were enjoying Bloody Mary’s
and the atmosphere. The walls are lined with an eclectic mix of photographs, surfboards, ski boards and coffee cups from around the world, which I found interesting and entertaining. Like the local restaurants of the past they have counter seating and tables available. I was located at the counter which I soon knew was where the regulars sat and conversed with the wait staff. I ordered the Pork Chili Verde Omelet. The wait staff said this was one of the “The Cup’s” specialties and has been featured on the Food Network Dives and Dinners. The Verde Omelet is served with tender pork in their famous green chili sauce over the omelet and topped with cheddar cheese. The smell was all I needed to know I had ordered something special. Bring your appetite proportions are generous and served with hash brown potatoes and toast. Oh yeah! This hit the spot…
