If you’re ready to hit the road, autumn is an ideal time to visit many locales. In these places, visitor numbers and prices drop, which means that you won’t have to fight the crowds at popular attractions, and your money will go further. Here are five top fall vacation destinations.
1. The Caribbean
Hurricane season extends into November in the Caribbean, but if you’re willing to take a gamble on the weather, you could be in for some big savings at this time of the year. Resorts in the region offer discounted rates in the fall, before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons begin. Plus, with families heading back to school after summer vacation, you’ll have more of the beach to yourself.
2. Key West
If you want a taste of the tropics closer to home, Key West is a good option for a fall vacation. Although the Florida Keys are generally humid and rainy during this time of the year, there is still a good chance that you’ll see plenty of sunshine. Since fall is the off-peak season in Key West, you’ll find significant discounts on lodging and activities, and you’ll experience more peace and quiet than during the busier peak tourist season. The exception to this low-season lull is during Fantasy Fest, in late October, which draws many revelers to the area and results in higher room rates.
Italy offers a diversity of highlights at any time of the year. However, from mid-September through October, you’ll be able to enjoy the country’s superb scenery, world-renowned cultural attractions and delicious food without the summertime throngs of tourists. Even better, accommodation prices in many areas drop during the fall shoulder season. Add warm autumn weather in much of the country, and you have all the ingredients for a perfect trip.
4. Las Vegas – Staycation
Las Vegas beckons tourists year-round, but the window of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is one of the quieter periods in the city. During these few weeks, it’s easier to find bargain-priced hotel rooms than at many other times of the year. If you can, try to avoid booking your room when large conventions or sporting events are taking place. At these times, hotel rooms fill up and prices rise.
Thailand has a well-deserved reputation as a budget destination. If you want to save even more money on your vacation, consider going to Thailand in September or October. These off-peak months are part of the rainy season, with wet and humid conditions, but you can take advantage of discounts on flights and lodging. Additionally, major attractions won’t be as crowded as during peak visitor periods.
While fall is not the most popular vacation season, travelers who visit the above destinations during the autumn will be rewarded with lower prices and uncrowded conditions. A vacation that might be unaffordable in the summer could become a reality in the fall. +
