We are just days away from a historic moment for our city, and the entire state of Nevada – the final 2016 presidential debate! All eyes will be on UNLV and Las Vegas on October 19 as the presidential candidates take the stage at the Thomas and Mack Center. This is the first time a presidential debate will be hosted in the Silver State. Hosting a prestigious event like a presidential debate will further secure Las Vegas’ reputation as a serious place to do business and will erase and remaining stigma about government agencies and private industry holding meetings and conventions in Las Vegas. While the number of people attending the event inside the Thomas and Mack Center is limited, roughly 5,000 media are expected to cover the debate, generating more than $50 million in publicity value for Southern Nevada. In fact, approximately 70 million people are expected to tune in to watch the debate. This is our time to shine!
Las Vegas is a destination built to host events, and while all of the excitement of the presidential debate is happening, thousands of people will also head to the destination for a number of high profile occasions and conventions. A major event to make note of is IMEX America at the Sands Expo & Convention Center on October 18-20. The show attracts meeting planners and event professionals from across the globe and provides the opportunity for Las Vegas to showcase the many reasons why we’ve held the title of North America’s leading trade show destination for 22 consecutive years.
October also brings a number of sporting events to Las Vegas including PBR Finals Week, Red Bull Air Races, National Hot Rod Association Fall Nationals and the Shriners Hospital Children’s Open. These events bring thousands of visitors to the destination each year. Make sure to take time to explore our great city this fall. There’s plenty to do and see!
